Golden Valley Grad Scott Barlow Signs With Dodgers
It looks like Golden Valley High grad Scott Barlow would rather be a Dodger than a Bulldog.
The pitcher and sixth-round pick by the Dodgers in the Major League Baseball draft decided to go pro rather than test the collegiate waters with Fresno State.
Barlow was in the stadium last night to watch the Dodgers lose to the Phillies. He is expected to start his pro career in the Arizona Rookie League.
In auto racing, Duarte Ferreira, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport, finished eighth in the Firestone Indy Lights race at Trois Rivieres in Quebec. Teammate Bruno Andrade was 12th.
Esteban Guerrieri won the race, which has red-flagged at one point because of heavy rain. It was his third win of the Indy Lights season.
In baseball, the surprising Pirates shut out the Giants, 5-0, the Astros clobbered the Diamondbacks, 9-1, the Mets rallied in the ninth inning to beat the Padres, 9-8, the Rockies outslugged the Reds, 10-7, and the Braves beat the Marlins, 8-5.
In the American League, the Rangers beat the Mariners, 9-2, the White Sox slipped past the Orioles, 7-6, and the Red Sox came from behind to beat the Twins, 8-6.
