Local Physicians Make Top Doc List
Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital is celebrating the recognition of three of its physicians by U.S. News & World Report’s “Top Doctors” list announced in July.
The 2011 peer-nominated review included Drs. Mark Liker, Thomas J. Connolly and Nancy Ellerbroek, all of whom practice at the hospital’s Valencia campus in addition to other medical facilities.

“We are pleased to have such a high caliber of physicians on our medical staff. These physicians share in our passion of creating a patient-centered environment and providing a high level of quality care,” said Roger Seaver, president and chief executive officer at Henry Mayo.
Liker, a neurosurgeon, was also ranked in the top one percent in his field.
“I’ve heard this is a very honest review of physicians, ranked by other physicians, so I was doubly surprised and honored,” he said. “I was thinking about it, there are about 3,000 neurosurgeons in the country, so one percent is 30. I’m glad to be in that rarified group of neurosurgeons.”
A radiation oncologist who’s practiced at the hospital since 2005, Ellerbroek had a similar reaction upon hearing about the recognition.
“I was surprised, happy and thrilled. It made me feel really good,” she said. “I always have to emphasize, though, that it’s a team effort. My staff makes me look good and helps things run smoothly.”
Pediatrician Connolly was surprised at the attention he’s received since the report came out. Connolly’s been practicing in the Santa Clarita Valley for the last 30 years.
“I’m still kind of in shock from getting all the phone calls congratulating me. I’ve just been doing my job like normal,” he said. “It’s very nice to get recognized this way, but the response I get from patients, when they thank me for doing something for them or send a little note, is the most important thing to me.”
For Liker, the recognition was validation of the progress he’s seen the hospital make since beginning practice at its Valencia campus ten years ago.
“Though only a few were chosen, there are countless physicians at Henry Mayo that are really excellent. I challenge the people of Santa Clarita Valley to seek out those good doctors and compare them to the ones they’ve seen elsewhere. They’ll be surprised and pleased by the quality offered in their own community,” he said.
“I have found the physicians at Henry Mayo to be very caring and of high quality. Henry Mayo is a hospital that’s been progressing in so many ways and we’re constantly doing what we can to improve and to stay one leap ahead,” she said.
