Golden Valley Football Coach Andy Campbell Resigns
Golden Valley football coach Andy Campbell has resigned less than a month before the first game of the season and two weeks before the team was set to begin practicing for the 2011 season
Campbell compiled a 3-17 record in two seasons as the head coach of the Golden Valley football team. The Grizzlies were 3-7 last year. Campbell was 0-10 against Foothill League opponents.
According to a report in The Signal, Campbell said he was leaving Golden Valley High School to fulfill necessary obligations to his family.
The Golden Valley football team opens against Simi Valley on Sept. 2.
The Santa Clarita Valley Tennis Aces are hosting a QuickStart Tennis Program for coaches and parents at the Heritage Park Tennis Courts on Aug. 20.
The program is designed to teach kids 10 and under a new way to learn how to play tennis. Cost is $10 per person.
In baseball, the Angels made quick work of the Twins, 5-1, but it wasn’t all good news in Halo territory. Starter Jered Weaver was suspended six games for throwing at Alex Avila of the Tigers last week. Manager Mike Scioscia was also suspended one game for the incident.
In other games, those same Tigers beat the Rangers, 6-5, and the Mariners beat the A’s, 4-2.
The Blue Jays beat the Rays, 3-1, the Red Sox slipped past the Indians, 3-2, the Yankees shut out the White Sox, 6-0, and the Orioles beat the Royals, 8-2.
In the National League, the Diamondbacks beat the Giants, 6-1. Both teams are tied for first place in the National League West standings. The Phillies shut out the Rockies, 5-0.
The Nationals beat the Braves, 9-3, the Cubs thumped the Pirates, 11-6, the Mets beat the Marlins, 4-3, the Reds beat the Astros, 5-1, and the Cardinals beat the Brewers, 8-7 in 11 innings.
