It’s Navy Week in Los Angeles. The US Navy, America’s Away Team, will be in port July 25-31 to share with Los Angeles area residents the story of what it does, why it’s important and what opportunities exist in today’s Navy.
This morning, the carrier USS Lincoln arrived at the Port of Los Angeles cruise terminal for an official declaration of Navy Week.

On Tuesday, sailors will help Habitat for Humanity with a construction project in Lawndale. At the port of Los Angeles, the USS Champion mine countermeasures ship will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sailors will visit patients at the Children Hospital of Orange County in Orange and the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House in Los Angeles. At lunchtime, the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile food truck will hand out a thousand chili dogs to sailors at the Port.
On Wednesday, the Boy Scouts will conduct a flag-raising ceremony with sailors on the USS Lincoln. The USS Lincoln and the USS Champion will be open to the public for tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
From 6 to 10 p.m., the U.S. Navy Band will perform at Downtown Disney in Anaheim.
On Thursday, the USS Princeton and destroyer USS Chaffee arrive at the Port of Los Angeles. Local Girl Scout troops will meet with CMDCM Susan A. Whitman for a meet and greet and tour of the carrier USS Lincoln.
Both the USS Lincoln and the USS Champion will be open to the public for tours.
Sailors will be serving lunch to the homeless at the St. Francis Center on Hope Street in Los Angeles. There are two performances for the US Navy Band; one at noon at The Grove/Farmer’s Market in Los Angeles and at 6 p.m. at Hollywood and Highland.
On Friday, the USS Princeton and USS Chaffee will be open to the public for tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
It’s also Navy Day at the Los Angeles Zoo, which will host 200 sailors and exhibit educational displays about the Navy.
At 3:15 p.m., the US Navy Band will perform at the Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa and will open for country singer Blake Shelton at the Pacific Amphitheatre on Fair Drive in Costa Mesa.
On Saturday, the USS Lincoln, the USS Princeton and the USS Champion will be open for tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
At 6 p.m., Admiral Greenert will throw the first pitch at the Los Angeles Dodger game and U.S. Navy Leap Frogs will make a jump into Dodger stadium.
On Sunday, the USS Lincoln will be open to the public for tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m..
It’s Navy Day at Knott’s Berry Farm; the Leap Frogs will parachute into the parking lot at 10 a.m. and at 5 p.m., the Navy Band will play a concert. The park will host 200 sailors and exhibit educational displays about opportunities available in the Navy.
At 10 a.m., the Navy Band will play a concert on the Santa Monica Pier and at 11 a.m., the Leap Frogs will parachute on to the pier.
