Santa Clarita Blue Heat Women's Soccer Team Ties LA Strikers
The Santa Clarita Blue Heat women’s soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against the LA Strikers at Canyon High School.
The Strikers took a 1-0 lead in the first half. Liz Franco tied the game in the second half on an assist by Hannah Beard.
The Blue Heat are in search of their first playoff berth in franchise history. They are 8-1-4 with one game left to play, Sunday night at 7 against the Pali Blues at Canyon High School.
The Blue Heat’s Edite Fernandes earned United Soccer League W-League player of the week honors. She was instrumental in the Blue Heat’s win over the Vancouver Whitecaps and in a tie against the Victoria Highlanders.
She scored the game-tying goal and assisted on the game-winner against the Whitecaps. She scored one goal in a 2-2 draw against the Highlanders.
Hart High graduate and UCLA pitcher Trevor Bauer won an ESPY for best male college athlete at the ESPN sports awards show. He was 13-2 with a 1.25 ERA and led the nation with 203 strikeouts. Bauer was the third overall pick in the Major League Baseball draft and selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
In hockey, the Kings agreed to terms with center Brad Richardson on a two-year deal and avoided abitration.
Richardson scored seven goals and had 12 assists in 68 games for the Kings last season. He was most effective on the penatly kill and racked up 47 penalty minutes.
