Suspect Makes Note To Self: Set The Brake Before You Run

khts_crimeIt was a little like the Keystone Kops in Newhall Tuesday afternoon, but in the end, the bad guy got caught and the truck was OK.

About 3:30, deputies were called by a utility worker who said that he’d left his water truck to make a service call at a location near Sierra Highway and Jake’s Way. When he returned, the truck was leaving without him, under the power of a suspect who was driving it towards Newhall.

A description was broadcast and deputies went into pursuit down Sierra Highway. The suspect, whose identity is not known at the time, abandoned the truck near Dockweiler Drive but forgot to put it in park.

You can see this one coming: the truck rolled over the suspect, who bounced back like Wylie Coyote and started running toward Newhall Avenue, despite his encounter with the moving water truck.

Deputies went in foot pursuit, set up a containment and caught up with the suspect near the Meadowridge Apartment complex on Newhall Avenue.

They called for an ambulance come pick up the suspect to make sure he wasn’t hurt too badly.

Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita station said that the suspect was currently at the hospital getting treated for his injuries.
