The Master's College Director Of Athletics Retires
Paul Berry, the Director of Athletics at The Master’s College, has retired after 10 years of guiding the sports programs at the school.
The 68-year-old Berry took over as Director of Athletics prior to the 2001-02 academic year and led the sports programs into the Golden State Athletic Conference.
During his 10 years at The Master’s College, 20 teams made appearances in NAIA national championship events. Three of those teams won Golden State Athletic Conference championships and six won National Christian College Athletic Association championships.
In track and field, Canyon High graduate Alysia Montano won the 800 at the US Outdoor national chanmpionships in Eugene, Ore.
She won the race in 1 minute, 58.33 seconds and qualified for the world championship meet in August in South Korea. It was her third US Outdoor title. She won the 800 in 2007 and 2010.
In auto racing, Canyon High graduate Greg Pursley was fourth in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma. He leads the West Series standings after six races.
Joey Logano won the race, followed by David Gilliland in second.
In the Firestone Indy Lights Series, Duarte Ferreira, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport, finished fifth in the Sukup 100 at Iowa Speedway. It was Ferreira’s best finish of his Indy Lights career.
Josef Newgarden, driving for Sam Scmidt Motorsports, won the race at Iowa Speedway.
The Dodgers busted out the bats in Minnesota, clobbering the Twins, 15-0, and kicked off their six-game road trip with a blast.
Trent Oeltjen hit the first home run of his major league career. Matt Kemp and Casey Blake each hit solo home runs as the Dodgers pounded out 25 hits. Each Dodger starter had at least one hit, scored a run and drove in a run.
In other games, the Cubs beat the Rockies, 7-3, the Tigers beat the Blue Jays, 4-2 and the Reds shut out the Rays, 5-0.
The Angels outlasted the Nationals, 5-4, in 10 innings, the Indians beat the Diamondbacks, 5-4, the Padres beat the Royals, 4-3 and the Braves beat the Mariners, 3-1.
