Valencia's Balta, Williams, Hart's Glasnow Earn All-CIF Honors

khts_sportsValencia’s AJ Balta and Trey Williams earned spots on the All-CIF Southern Section Division 1 baseball team as selected by the Southern Section Coaches’ Association.

Balta hit .425 and led the Vikings with 11 home runs in his sophomore season. Williams, a junior, hit .345 with nine home runs and 20 RBIs.

Hart’s Tyler Glasnow was also selected to the All-CIF baseball first team.

The senior right-hander was 8-2 with a 1.25 ERA and struck out 99 batters in 67 innings.

Edison’s Henry Owens was chosen as the Southern Section Division 1 player of the year.

Alex Tenorio from Hart and Justin Sheehan from Saugus were selected to the Southern Section second team.

Dylan Lohman and Aaron Rowen from Vasquez High School earned spots on the Division 6 second team.

Ryan Fullarton from Santa Clarita Christian and Dakota Prochnow from Trinity Classical Academy were selected to the Division 7 second team.

Valencia’s Bethany Kemp made the All-CIF Southern Section Division 1 softball team. She was the only player from the Foothill League chosen for the All-CIF team.

Kaeli Massetto from Trinity Classical Academy made the Division 7 All-CIF team.

Broc Oppler from Valencia was selected to the All-CIF Southern Section Division 2 boys volleyball team.

The Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw shut out the Tigers, 4-0, and won for the second game in a row. Kershaw tossed a two-hitter, struck out 11 and drove in two runs with a single in the eighth inning. Juan Uribe hit a solo home run in the first inning for the Dodgers.

In other games, the Rockies beat the Indians, 8-7, and the Red Sox clobbered the Padres, 14-5.

The Angels beat the reeling Marlins, 2-1, and handed the fish their 19th loss of the month. The Marlins have won only one game in June. Angels starter Jered Weaver won his major league leading ninth game of the season. He gave up one run on five hits in seven innings.

The Rangers beat the Astros, 8-3, in the battle of Texas. The Yankees beat the Reds, 5-3, the Orioles beat the Pirates, 8-3, the Braves blanked the Blue Jays, 2-0, the Cubs doubled up on the White Sox, 6-3, and the Rays beat the Brewers, 8-4.
