Arizona Diamondbacks Take Hart High Grad Trevor Bauer In 1st Round Of MLB Draft
Hart High graduate and UCLA pitcher Trevor Bauer was taken by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first round of the major league baseball draft. He was the third overall pick.
UCLA teammate Gerrit Cole, another pitcher for the Bruins, was the No. 1 pick in the draft. He was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In running, Jeffrey Jackson, a graduate from The Master’s College, was third in the Dodge Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Half-Marathon. He completed the 13.1 mile course in 1 hour, 6 minutes, 47 seconds.
Meb Keflezighi, the 2004 Olympic silver medalist in the marathon, won the San Diego Half-Marathon.
In the NHL playoffs, the Boston Bruins stormed back into the Stanley Cup final with an 8-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks in Game 3. Mark Recchi scored twice in the offensive barrage by the Bruins.
The Canucks have a 2-1 lead in the series. Game 4 is Wednesday in Boston.
The Dodger bats took the night off in a 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies and starter Cliff Lee. Lee struck out 10 and tossed seven shutout innings against the Dodgers.
In other games, the Rockies shut out the Padres, 3-0, and the Giants beat the Nationals, 5-4, in a marathon 13 innings.
The Reds beat the Cubs, 8-2, and the Brewers beat the Marlins, 7-2.
In the American League, the Angels lost to the Rays, 5-1. The White Sox beat the Mariners, 3-1, the Tigers took care of the Rangers, 13-7, and the Orioles beat the A’s, 4-2.
The Twins beat the Indians, 6-4, and the Royals beat the Blue Jays, 3-2, in 11 innings.
