UPDATED: Woman Killed In Saturday Morning Collision On Soledad Canyon Road

A woman killed early Saturday morning in what appears to be a solo traffic collision was identified Tuesday morning.

Canyon Country resident Velma Yolanda Ortega, 35, died at the scene of the crash on Soledad Canyon Road just east of Langside Road.

At approximately 6 a.m. Ortega's 2001 Toyota Corolla was traveling eastbound on Soledad Canyon Road east of Langside Avenue, in the #2 lane.

For unknown reasons, she caused the vehicle to swerve to the left and strike the center median and a tree, where the vehicle came to rest.

Ortega's passengers, Alfredo Anguiano, 34, of Newhall and Isaias Altoluis, 39, of Canyon Country,  had to be extricated from the vehicle and were transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

Traffic was diverted off Soledad Canyon Road via Rainbow Glen for several hours to facilitate the accident investigation.

The reason for the collision is under investigation and it is unknown why the vehicle left the roadway. Anyone with information or witnessing the accident is urged to contact Traffic Investigator Jeff Maag at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s station traffic office at 661-799-5112.
