City To Begin Median Improvements On Soledad Canyon June 6
Watch out for changing traffic patterns as the city of Santa Clarita begins construction on a major refurbishment project for the center medians along Soledad Canyon Road starting Monday, June 6.
The project will begin at Shadow Pines and extend 4.5 miles to Luther Drive.
“Investing in quality landscape projects within the public rights-of-ways helps maintain higher property values and keeps the City on the cutting edge of water management,” commented Mayor Marsha McLean. “The City is committed to taking aggressive steps to be a leader in the industry by implementing new irrigation technology to reduce the community’s water consumption, while keeping areas beautifully landscaped.”

The Soledad Project will replace aging plants with beautiful, low water use vegetation consistent with medians located throughout the rest of the city. In addition to beautifying the median landscape with new and existing trees, the project includes the installation of cutting-edge irrigation technology to ensure adequate water usage. The project will also make preparations to use recycled water when it becomes available in approximately three to five years.
Construction will be split into two phases. The first phase, beginning in June, consists of medians located west of Sand Canyon Road and will be done at night in order to limit disruption of traffic. The second phase of construction will be completed during the day to medians located east of Sand Canyon Road. The project is anticipated to be complete by fall 2011.
