Hart School Board Member Steve Sturgeon Seeks Re-Election
Hart School Board Member Steve Sturgeon declared his intention to run for re-election November 2011.
“For almost seventeen years, I have had the opportunity to serve first the Sulphur Springs Elementary District and for these recent twelve years, the William S. Hart Union High School District. We have seen tremendous growth in all of our numbers, the numbers of students and families whom we serve; the improvement in test scores and our overall ranking compared to County, State and Federal educational measures. As our Valley has grown, so have we expanded our facilities to meet the needs of an expanded population. Two new High Schools and two new Junior High Schools have added to the educational excellence that brings new families to this valley. A half billion dollar modernization program has brought our older campuses up to date with the latest technologies and facility improvements. Class “A” sport and stadium facilities at all of our High School campuses will soon complement performing arts centers already built or underway.

We have more to do. The future will include the completion of a high school in the Castaic area, a project that has spanned over 12 years in planning. This school has been one of my more significant priorities during my tenure. I look forward to a ground breaking and the eventual Freshman class. The next few years will not be easy. Our financial resources have been severely impacted by the fiscal challenges placed on education throughout the State. We have much to work through during these tough economic times.
My experience on the Wm. S. Hart School Board has given me a unique perspective and understanding of how the high school educational systems work at all government levels. I believe that with my peers at the Board table and the support of District Staff, I can continue to make a positive impact as we address the issues we face today and for the next four years. Our focus will always remain directed towards “what’s best for kids””
Steve will hold a reception to begin his candidacy later in May.
