COC Men's Golf Team Wins Conference Championship

khts_sportsThe College of the Canyons men’s golf team won the Western State Conference championship for the second year in row.

COC shot 747, 13 shots ahead of Glendale College, in the two-day conference final tournament at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills.

Aaron West earned conference Player of the Year honors with an average scored of 71.6 in conference tournaments. Derek Larson, James Holley and Alex Macaluso were selected to the all-conference team.

The Valencia baseball team was swept by Dana Hills in a doubleheader over the weekend. The Vikings lost the first game, 3-2, and the second game, 8-0.

The Valencia boys volleyball team will look to win its 99th Foothill League match in a row tonight against Golden Valley. The Vikings are home for the match. They haven’t lost a league match since 2001 and have the state record for most league wins in a row with 98.

The Saugus boys volleyball team is on the road for a Foothill League match against West Ranch. The Canyon boys volleyball team is home against Hart.

The Newhall Land Cup, which doubles as the Foothill League finals in boys golf, begins today at the TPC at Valencia.

In college baseball, the College of the Canyons is home for a game against LA Valley College.

The College of the Canyons softball team is home for a game against Glendale College.

The Valencia softball team beat El Modena, 8-5, on Saturday. It was Valencia’s second win in a row after losing two straight Foothill League games.

The Vikings return to Foothill League play today on the road against Canyon.

The Golden Valley softball team is home for a game against Saugus. The Hart softball team travels to West Ranch.

The Trinity Classical Academy softball team is home for a game against Grace Brethren.

The Kings lost to the San Jose Sharks, 4-3, in overtime and were eliminated from the NHL playoffs. Joe Thornton scored the game-winner for the Sharks. He also had an assist on the Sharks’ first goal in the second period.

Trevor Lewis scored a goal and had an assist. The Kings scored twice on the power play. Lewis’ goal in the third period tied the game at 3-3 to send it into overtime.

But the Kings couldn’t score on a five-minute power play at the end of regulation. The Sharks won the series four games to two.

The Lakers will most likely have Kobe Bryant in Game 5 of the first round of the NBA playoffs against the New Orleans Hornets tonight.

Bryant twisted his ankle in the fourth quarter of Game 4 in New Orleans. The Hornets won the game to even the series at two games apiece.

Bryant has a sprained ankle and is listed as day-to-day, but he told ESPN Los Angeles that he will play in tonight’s game at Staples Center.

Tipoff for Game 5 is scheduled for 7:30 tonight.
