Hart Softball Team Wins Two Games In Thousand Oaks Tournament

khts_sportsThe Hart softball team won a couple games big time in the Thousand Oaks Tournament over the weekend.

Hart beat Rio Mesa, 12-2 in six innings in the first game, and Chaminade, 18-2, in the second game. Tracy Chandless collected six hits in the two games. She was 4-for-5 with a home run and drove in four runs against Chaminade.

Sierra Quala was 3-for-4 with a double and drove in two runs against Rio Mesa. She collected another two hits against Chaminade.

The Valencia and Hart boys swim teams tied for first at the SCV Relays meet at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center. The two teams each scored 252 points and won three races. Valencia won the 4-by-50 backstroke, 4-by-100 medley and 6-by-50 freestyle races. Hart won the 4-by-50 butterfly, 4-by-50 medley and 4-by-100 freestyle races.

The Hart girls swim team won all but one relay and finished 40 points ahead of second place Valencia at the meet.

In track, West Ranch’s Jennifer Owen won the invitational 1,600 and finished second in the 800 at the Mt. San Antono College Relays in Walnut. Teammate Ashley Welker was fifth in the 800.

Canyon’s Sam Willis was sixth in the 1,600. Canyon’s Kenny Stone was third in the 100 and Taylor Thomas set a school record in 100 hurdles at 14.51 seconds.

In college baseball, The Master’s College split a doubleheader against San Diego Christian, winning the first game, 8-5, and losing the second game, 5-4.

Chris Talley was 2-for-5 with a home run and drove in three runs in the first game. Tanner Leighton was 2-for-3 with a triple and scored two runs in the second game.

The Santa Clarita Christian softball team beat Lennox, 7-6, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Kimberly Curry knocked in Pam Ruffner in the seventh. Heather McCain earned the complete-game win, striking out five and giving up three hits. She was also 2-for-2 at the plate and drove in a run.

The Santa Clarita Christian softball team is back in action today against Rolling Hills Prep in a Heritage League game.

The Santa Clarita Christian baseball team is home for a game against Cal City.

The softball teams in the Foothill League are all scheduled to play today. Valencia is at Hart, West Ranch is at Golden Valley and Saugus is at Canyon.

The Valencia boys volleyball team will look to set a state record for consecutive league wins. The Vikings have won 96 straight Foothill League matches. They play Saugus tonight.

The Hart boys volleyball team is entered in the Easter Tournament. The Canyon boys volleyball team is in the Las Vegas Men’s Tournament.

Robinson Ranch will host the fourth Foothill League boys golf match today. All six teams from the Foothill League will play in the match.

In auto racing, Gerrit Cromsigt of Saugus won the NASCAR Super Stocks season opener at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. Rich DeLong III of Santa Clarita, the reigning Super Stocks champion, was third.

Joe Anderson of Valencia won the Open Comp race. DeLong was second.

At the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, Duarte Ferreira, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport, was 14th in the Firestone Indy Lights race. Ferreira withdrew after completing only 17 laps with mechanical problems.

Connor Daly won the race, taking the lead on lap 41 of the 43-lap race.

The Kings will look to take a two games to one lead against the San Jose Sharks in the first round of the NHL playoffs tonight.

The Kings shut out the Sharks, 4-0, to tie the series at a game apiece. Drew Doughty had a huge game with two goals and two assists. The Kings recorded only the sixth playoff shutout in franchise history.
