Hart Baseball Team Shuts Out Valencia, 1-0
The Hart baseball team handed Valencia its first Foothill League loss of the season, 1-0, in a much-anticipated rematch.
Daniel Dietz knocked in the only run of the game, an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning, to give Hart the win.
Hart starter Tyler Glasnow took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and struck out 12. He gave up a hit to Alex Bishop in the fifth and walked six.
Nick Rivas started for Valencia and shut out Hart for six innings and was one out away from seeing game go into extra innings. Dietz drove in Tommy Bilbo with a two-out single to win the game.
The West Ranch baseball team beat Golden Valley, 7-3, scoring four runs in the third inning. Aaron Watkins was 2-for-4 and drove in two runs.
West Ranch starter Ryan Keller pitched a complete game and gave up only five hits.
Golden Valley’s Anthony San Miguel was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and scored two runs.
The Saugus baseball team beat Canyon, 4-3, and snapped a four-game losing streak in league play.
Nick Lombardi went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs. He also earned the save, getting the final two outs of the game and squelching a seventh-inning Canyon rally.
Canyon scored two runs and had the tying run on second base in the seventh inning.
The Master’s College baseball team lost to Azusa Pacific, 8-7, giving up three runs in the ninth inning.
Parker Price was 3-for-5, drove in two runs and scored a run for The Master’s College.
The West Ranch boys golf team beat Arcadia by 22 strokes in a match at the Wilson Golf Course at Griffith Park.
Five West Ranch golfers broke 80 in the match. JJ Holen had the low round with a 1-over par 73. CJ Espino was 3-over par at 75, Joey Downey was 5-over par at 77, Isaac Kim was 6-over at 78 and Kyle Blatchford was 7-over par at 79.
The Saugus girls swim team beat Canyon, 99-70, in a Foothill League meet at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center. The Canyon boys team beat Saugus, 103-67, at the same meet.
All the softball teams in the Foothill League are in action today.
The Hart and Saugus softball teams are scheduled to play at the Hart Pony Complex in a night game starting at 7.
The Valencia softball team is home for a game against West Ranch. The Golden Valley softball team travels to Canyon.
The Trinity Classical Academy softball team is on the road for a game against First Lutheran.
The College of the Canyons softball team travels to LA Valley College for a doubleheader.
The Valencia boys volleyball team will look to tie the state record for league wins in a row against Hart tonight at Valencia High School.
The Canyon boys volleyball team is on the road for a game against Saugus and the West Ranch boys volleyball team travels to Golden Valley.
The Lakers, playing without center Andrew Bynum, needed overtime to beat the Sacramento Kings, 116-108, in the regular-season finale.
Kobe Bryant hit a 3-pointer with 4.8 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime. He scored 36 points in the game.
The Lakers are the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference of the NBA playoffs and will play the New Orleans Hornets in the first round.
The Kings open the NHL playoffs tonight against the San Jose Sharks. The good news in winger Justin Williams is expected to make his return to the ice for the Kings. The bad news is the Sharks are the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference playoffs and crushed the Kings, 6-1, in the their last meeting in the regular season.
The two teams split their six regular season games.
