Valencia Boys Volleyball Team One Win Away From State Record
The Valencia boys volleyball team swept West Ranch in three games. Broc Oppler had a match-high eight kills and five aces. Eric Ensing also had eight kills for Valencia.
Valencia ran its Foothill League winning streak to 95 straight matches. The team needs one more win to match the state win streak of 96 matches set by Loyola.
The Hart boys volleyball team beat Saugus in four games. JJ Mosolf and Taylor Gregory each had 12 kills for Hart. Chris Leclair had 27 assists as Hart ran its league record to 3-0.
The Golden Valley volleyball team beat Canyon in four games. Alec Schlossman led Golden Valley with nine kills and eight aces.
The 18th annual Master’s College golf tournament is scheduled for April 25 at Robinson Ranch Golf Course. Registration has already started for the scholarship fundraiser and tournament.

The Canyon softball team is on a hot streak. Canyon beat Hart, 8-5, scoring four runs in the second inning. Jenny Wunderlich and Tiffany Dyson each had two-run singles in the second for Canyon.
Canyon ended a nine-year losing streak to Hart. The last time Canyon beat Hart in a Foothill League game was in 2002.
The Saugus softball team beat Weat Ranch 10-3. Ashley Butera hit a three-run home run in the first inning and Jenna Kelly was 3-for-3 with three RBIs for Saugus. Alyssa Rodriguez capped a four-run sixth inning with a three-run double.
West Ranch’s Janelle Lindvall went 2-for-3 with a double.
The Valencia softball team had no problem with Golden Valley in a 4-0 shutout. Justine Sibthorp went 3-for-3 and scored two runs for Valencia. Bethany Kemp drove in three runs.
Valencia starter Carly Mortensen tossed a three-hitter and struck out 11.
The College of the Canyons softball team lost to Citrus College, 10-2. Karissa Hartwig hit a solo home run for COC.
The Trinity Classical Academy baseball team beat Hillcrest Christian, 21-0. Starter Chris Buchanan recorded the first shutout in school history for Trinity. He scattered five hits and struck out nine. He was also 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in four runs.
The Valencia boys tennis team beat West Ranch, 10-8, to keep its unbeaten streak in Foothill League play alive. Valencia’s No. 1 singles player JR Macalutas swept his sets, 6-0, 6-2, 6-3 to pace the Vikings, 13-0 overall and 5-0 in league.
The Golden Valley boys tennis team beat Canyon, 11-7, for its first win in the Foothill League.
Golden Valley’s No. 1 doubles team of Christian Navarro and Caleb Kim swept their sets.
The Saugus boys tennis team beat Hart, 11-7.
The College of the Canyons men’s golf team won the sixth Western State Conference match by seven strokes over Glendale College. Aaron West led COC with a 2-under par, 70.
The Lakers beat the San Antonio Spurs, 102-93, and snapped a five-game losing streak. But center Andrew Bynum hyperextended his knee in the second quarter and left the game.
He is scheduled to have an MRI on his right knee today and is not expected to travel with the Lakers to Sacramento for the regular-season finale against the Kings.
Bynum’s knee injury was the second blow to the Lakers roster. Guard Steve Blake missed the game against the Spurs because of chicken pox. He could be out two weeks recovering. Matt Barnes also did not play against the Spurs as he opted to rest his ailing knees.
Kobe Bryant scored 27 points and Pau Gasol had 17 points and 17 rebounds in the win against the Spurs.
The Lakers wrap up the regular season against the Kings tonight. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30.
