Golden Valley Baseball Team Wins Coachella Valley Tournament
The Golden Valley baseball team won the Coachella Valley tournament, beating Brawley, 7-4, in extra innings in the championship game.
Billy Frederick hit a three-run home run in the 10th inning to give Golden Valley the win and the tournament title.
Golden Valley pitcher Scott Barlow earned tournament MVP. He pitched three scoreless innings against Brawley and earned the win. Josh Smith picked up his first save.
The Hart baseball team scored nine runs in the seventh inning to beat Beckman from Irvine, 10-3, in the third-place game of the OC Nissan Tournament. Kevin Bailey had two doubles in the seventh inning for Hart. He was 3-for-4 and scored two runs.
Dallas Bacon knocked in two runs with a single in the seventh-inning rally.
Bobby Stafford got the win in relief, going 2 1/3 innings and allowing only one run.
The Valencia baseball team beat Briarcrest Christian, 8-3, in a game played in Tennessee. Trey Williams hit a three-run home run and AJ Balta added a solo shot for Valencia.
The Santa Clarita Christian baseball team beat St. Monica Academy, 5-1. Starter Ryan Fullarton struck out 11 and gave up only two hits for Santa Clarita Christian. He also drove in a run and was 1-for-4 at the plate.
Jake Kaiserske was 2-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored a run. Jake Asher had an RBI double and scored a run.
The Master’s College baseball team was swept by Pt. Loma Nazarene in a doubleheader. The Master’s College lost the first game, 14-6, and the nightcap, 9-3.
Ben Ives was 2-for-5 and drove in two runs in the first game for The Master’s College. He hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. Tanner Leighton was 2-for-4 with a double and scored two runs in the secondt game for the The Master’s College.
The Santa Clarita Christian softball team is on the road for a game against Trinity Classical Academy this afternoon.
The Trinity baseball team is home for a game against New Community Jewish.
The College of the Canyons baseball team travels to Glendale College for a game.
The College of the Canyons softball team has a doubleheader on the road against Santa Monica College.
Perhaps the Lakers did peak a little too soon. The Lakers lost to the Golden State Warriors, 95-87, and now have a three-game losing streak heading into playoffs.
After riding a season-high nine-game winning streak, the Lakers are all of a sudden in a funk. They lost to the lowly Utah Jazz on Tuesday night and the Denver Nuggets on Sunday.
The Warriors meanwhile have won three games in a row all against playoff-bound teams.
Andrew Bynum had a monster night with 13 points and 17 rebounds. David Lee had an even better night for the Warriors with 22 points and 17 rebounds.
The Lakers will look to snap their losing skid against the Trail Blazers in Portland on Friday night.
The Kings beat the Phoenix Coyotes, 3-2 in a shootout and clinched a spot in the NHL playoffs.
Jarrett Stoll gave the Kings a 1-0 lead with a goal in the first period. The Coyotes scored twice before the end of the first period to take a 2-1 lead.
Kyle Clifford tied the game with a goal in the second period. Stoll scored the game-winner in the shootout.
Next up for the Kings are the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night.
