West Ranch Baseball Team Downs Mater Dei, 4-3

khts_sportsWest Ranch’s Matt Blake collected four hits in his team’s 4-3 win over Mater Dei in the Anaheim Lions Tournament.

West Ranch strarter Ryan Keller came within one out of a complete game and struck out 10.

JC Cloney and Gabe Peralta each had two hits apiece for West Ranch, which is 3-0-1 in the tournament.

Golden Valley starter Scott Barlow struck out 15 in his team’s 4-2 win over La Quinta in the Coachella Valley Tournament.

Barlow gave up only three hits and improved to 4-1.

The Hart baseball team lost to Palm Desert, 5-0, in the OC Nissan Tournament. The Indians managed only three hits in the game, two by starter Garrett Gooding.

He singled in the first and doubled in the third. Baggio Saldivar got the only other hit for Hart, a two-out double in the second inning.

Hart will play in the third-place game of the tournament today.

The College of the Canyons baseball team lost to Glendale College, 12-7. Jake Jelmini was 2-for-3 with a double and drove in three runs for COC.

Glendale scored five runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-4 lead.

The Santa Clarita Christian softball team exploded offensively, 17-6, over Lennox. Kimberly Curry drove in five runs, hit a home run and was 2-for-3 with a triple.

Kerry Houchin drove in three runs and was 3-for-4 with a triple.

Heather McCain earned the win, giving up four hits and striking out four.

Santa Clarita Christian plays Trinity Classical Academy on Thursday.

The College of the Canyons softball team lost to Bakersfield College, 5-0. Karla Lira was 2-for-3 for COC.

The Santa Clarita Christian and Trinity boys golf teams are playing today at Elkins Ranch in Fillmore.

The Master’s College baseball team has a doubleheader at home against Pt. Loma Nazarene.

In college basketball, the Texas A&M women won the NCAA national championship, 76-70, over Notre Dame. Danielle Adams scored 30 points to lead Texas A&M to its first national championship.

The Lakers lost to the reeling Utah Jazz, 86-85, and have dropped two in a row after winning a season-high nine games in a row.

Kobe Bryant scored 20 points, 10 in the fourth quarter, but the Lakers committed 19 turnovers.

The Jazz snapped an eight-game losing streak behind a lights-out shooting night from rookie Gordon Hayward. He scored a career-high 22 points, including the go-ahead free throw with six seconds left in the game.

Next up for the Lakers are the Golden State Warriors tonight. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30.

The Kings are home tonight for a game against the Phoenix Coyotes. The Kings can clinch a playoff spot with a win. They are coming off a brutal, 6-1, loss to the San Jose Sharks.

The Coyotes and the Kings are fighting for the fourth seed in the NHL Western Conference playoffs. The Coyotes have won seven of their past 10 games, but are coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to the Colorado Avalanche.
