Child & Family Center – Century Ride
Child & Family Center challenges riders to participate in the Third Annual Santa Clarita Century Ride.  Saturday’s event promotes cycling in and around Santa Clarita.  While a main 100-mile event challenges cyclist high into the Angeles National Forest, three shorter rides offer options for every cyclist from avid roadies to recent training-wheel graduates, including a six-mile Family Ride.  All proceeds benefit the Child & Family Center of Santa Clarita Valley.  The Child & Family Center provides mental health and behavioral and educational services to local children, adults and families.  Click here for more information on Child & Family.  The event is a partnership between Santa Clarita Velo and the City of Santa Clarita.  All rides begin at the Westfield Valencia Town Center.  Click here for registration - registration closes at 11:59pm Thursday, March 31. 
Courses:
Family Ride, starting at 10am – 6 miles, loops around local bike paths
25 Miles, starting at 8:30am – 25 miles, approximately 1,225 feet of climbing
Half-Century, starting at 8am – 58 miles, approximately 2,400 feet of climbing
Century, starting at 7am – 105 miles, approximately 7,000 feet of climbing

Dancing With Our Stars
A night like no other, Dancing With Our Stars, arrives Saturday.  The evening welcomes fourteen Santa Clarita non-profits that will pair up their stars with professionals for an evening of exciting competition. Support your favorite non-profit and all the hard work of their stars.  Dancing With Our Stars will be held at the Odyssey Restaurant.  The no-host bar begins at 6pm followed by dinner and dancing at 7:00p.m.  To purchase tickets call 294-4444.   A full list of this year’s participating non-profits and photos of last year’s event are on the website.

College Of The Canyons-“Death Of A Salesman”
That icon of American theater, “Death of a Salesman” is playing this weekend. presented by College of the Canyons.  This powerful play tells the story of Willy Loman, a down-on-his-luck, middle-aged salesman who is unable to understand how his dreams of success and fortune have eluded him.  Arthur Miller’s “Death of a Salesman” was awarded a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best Play in 1949, the year it premiered.  College of the Canyon’s presentation will be in the Black Box Theater.  The play runs Wednesday through Sunday.  Performances are at 8pm Wednesday through Saturday, with a Sunday matinee starting at 2pm.  Click here for tickets.  Visit:  Canyon.edu

A Bit Of The West – Life and Work of Walt LaRue
Get back to Santa Clarita’s western roots with “A Bit of the West – The Life and Work of Artist Walt LaRue”.  Walt LaRue led a colorful life that included rodeo riding which moved into stunt work during the era of Hollywood westerns.  LaRue’s work captured his world in art by centering on themes of the West, rodeo, stunt work, music and friends.  Visit OutWest Western Boutique and Cultural Center this Saturday from 1-4pm to see LaRue’s original illustrations, art, rodeo programs and select personal items.  Click here for a full story by Carol Rock.

SCV Youth Project – Sweet Charity Cake Auction
It isn’t too late to plan a cake or to get tickets for the 3rd Annual Sweet Charity Cake Auction and Competition.  This event is a fun and creative way to promote local companies, charities, schools and others.  All are invited to design a specialty cake to promote their business, mission, logo, product or mascot.  The cakes will be put on display for viewing and bidding.  Cakes are paired with unique gifts, such as, trip certificates, baskets and gift certificates creating an innovative and valuable auction item.  You can bake your own cakes or leave it to the professionals to re-create your design.  Sweet Charity Cake Auction and Competition will be held Saturday, April 9 at the Tournament Players Club (TPC) in Valencia.  Click here for photos of the 2010 Cake Auction.
