UPDATED: Grapevine Is Open

raindropsUpdated 12:00 p.m.

The Grapevine is open as are adjacent highways.

The California Highway Patrol and Caltrans have closed the Grapevine due to heavy snow in the area. The road closed at approximately 7 p.m. and CHP officers from the Newhall and Fort Tejon offices are in the process of sweeping the area to assist stranded motorists and convince those at the closure to turn around and go back to their original location.

Travelers who need to get north on the I-5 corridor can take one of two detours to get around the Grapevine; State Route 126 West to Ventura, then 101 North. CHP officials said that drivers can return to the northbound I-5 by taking either Highway 166 or Highway 46. Travelers needing to get to Highway 99 north can take State Route 14 to Highway 58 north and pick up Highway 99 in Bakersfield.

A flash flood warning has been issued for Southern California; flooding has been reported in the Topanga Canyon area and on roadways in the western San Fernando Valley. Drivers should use extreme caution and avoid areas where water covers the roadway.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works has announced that based on the forecast of heavy rain, it will close public access to all County roads within the Station Fire burn area at 11:59 p.m. tonight .

As a result, the following roads will be closed to all traffic with the exception of emergency vehicles:

  • Angeles Forest Highway from Aliso Canyon Road to Angeles Crest Highway
  • Big Tujunga Canyon Road from the City of LA/County boundary to Angeles Forest Highway
  • Upper Bg Tujunga Canyon Road

Local access will not be permitted until the road closures are lifted. The closure will be in effect until the roads are made safe for passage.

CHP responded at 1:00 p.m. today to a landslide that occured on Sierra Highway just north of Soledad Canyon Road. The landslide caused the closure of multiple lanes.

A multi-vehicle accident is affected traffic traveling northbound on the I-5 just south of Magic Mountain Parkway, with all lanes temporarily closed to clear the accident.
