Senior Transit Volunteer Program Launches Next Week
Senior citizens will find public transportation a little less mysterious with the help of a new program being launched by Santa Clarita Transit next week.
A new volunteer Senior Transit Ambassador Program will be introduced at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 9 at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center.
Those curious about the program are invited to join city staff and senior citizens to learn about local transit and how to volunteer to encourage other senior community members to get on board and explore.

“There are many seniors in Santa Clarita who would enjoy more freedom if they knew how easy public transportation is to use,” said Mayor Marsha McLean. “Santa Clarita Transit can help local seniors save money, increase mobility options, maintain independence, and plan fun adventures around the community as well as to other neighboring cities.”
The Senior Transit Ambassador Program is designed to train seniors how to assist other seniors who request more personalized help in learning to use Santa Clarita Transit’s local bus system.
As a volunteer Transit Ambassador, seniors will have the opportunity to help plan “Senior-Only” trips throughout the year, make a significant impact in the community, and receive a personalized ambassador jacket and hat.
To qualify to be a Senior Transit Ambassador, volunteers must be at least 60 years of age or older, attend volunteer quarterly meeting, available to commit to the program for at least 12 months, and retain a Senior Transit Access Pass (TAP) identification card.
“Santa Clarita Transit is very excited to launch the Transit Ambassador Program in partnership with our senior community. As a volunteer ambassador, we’re looking for enthusiastic, local seniors who are willing to help two to three people each month maintain or increase their mobility through public transportation,” said Transit Manager Adrian Aguilar.
