On February 23, Bieber, sporting a new trim, went on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and presented the talk show host with a lock of his hair for her birthday. DeGeneres then announced that she would donate the proceeds generated by the coveted strands to the Gentle Barn.
The Gentle Barn, located on Sierra Highway near Vasquez Way, provides a safe home to 120 animals that were abused or neglected by previous owners. At the barn, children from disadvantaged areas, group homes, mental health care facilities, foster homes and schools frequently visit the animals.
In an episode last May, DeGeneres presented Gentle Barn founder Ellie Laks with a $50,000 donation from Tonic, a digital media company which promotes philanthropic efforts around the world. With the money, the Gentle Barn built a farm for 60 dairy cows.
In early February, Superbowl Champion Clay Matthews from the Green Bay Packers had DeGeneres auction off a pair of signed custom made shoes for the Gentle Barn. The shoes went for $405.
As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, the lock is listed at $13,100 on eBay. The expensive tuft comes in a signed Plexiglas case.
Now, with a little help from the Beebs, who turns 17 today, the Gentle Barn is closer to completing various projects, such as rescuing stray dogs in Cadiz, Ohio. The dogs, which were stranded after a snow storm and scheduled to be put down, will live safely at the barn in the Santa Clarita Valley.
“It’s pretty remarkable. Ellen is just so amazing to be supporting us like she is,” said Laks. “But on the flipside, the fact that there’s people out there who are willing to pay this kind of money for a piece of hair, I don’t know what to say to that.”
Whether you’ve come down with a case of Bieber Fever, want to help a worthwhile charity or both, you’ll need to act quick. The auction ends tomorrow at 10:32:26 a.m.
