Hart Boys Soccer Team Shuts Out Saugus

khts_sportsThe Hart boys soccer team shut out Saugus, 4-0, and won its sixth Foothill League game of the season. The Hart boys are in first place in the Foothill League standings. Edwin Medina scored two goals for Hart.

Hart goalkeeper Ryan Oakey made three saves in the shutout. Nico Ferrero had a goal and an assist. Sammy Reyes scored the fourth goal for Hart.

The West Ranch boys beat Golden Valley, 6-3, behind a hat trick from Lucas Riley. Jacob Jordan scored two goals and Chris Tumasone scored one goal for West Ranch, which won its fifth Foothill League game of the season.

The Valencia and Canyon boys soccer teams played to a 1-1 draw. Valencia’s Michael Tapanese scored a first-half goal to give his team a 1-0 lead. Jordan Markovich tied the game for Canyon with a goal in the 73rd minute.

The Saugus girls soccer team shut out Hart, 1-0, clinched the Foothill League championship and ran its undefeated league record to 8-0. Colleen Ortega scored the lone goal in the game on a header in the first half.

The Canyon boys basketball team seems to have Valencia’s number. The Canyon boys beat Valencia, 72-65, and won its third straight game against their Foothill League rivals.

Canyon’s big three of Coley Apsay, Darnel Haggerty and Clay Kasdorf combined to score 55 of their team’s 72 points. Haggerty led the way with a game-high 20 points.

Valencia’s Lonnie Jackson scored 18 in the loss. Martin Flowers led Valencia with 19 points.

The Saugus boys basketball team beat Hart, 49-46, and held off a second-half charge by the Indians. Jeremy Gatewood scored the eventual game-winning basket for Saugus with 16 seconds left in the game. He finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Hart’s Roman Delgado scored nine points in the third quarter as his team took a two-point lead, 36-34. He finished with a game-high 18 points and 13 rebounds.

The West Ranch boys beat Golden Valley, 62-39, behind 21 points from Ako Kaluna.

Golden Valley’s Wade Rodriguez scored a team-high 14 points for Golden Valley.

The Trinity Classical Academy boys basketball team beat Trinity Lutheran, 46-33. Jordan Mumper scored 11 points and Spencer Klehn added 10 for Trinity Classical Academy.

The Saugus girls basketball team beat Hart, 61-50, and won its fourth Foothill League game in a row. Jordan Oster scored a team-high 18 points for Saugus. The Saugus girls scored 21 points in the third quarter and built a 52-31 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Mariah Glasshoff scored a game-high 20 points for Hart.

The Canyon girls basketball team beat Valencia, 53-43. Adriana Dent scored 12 points for Canyon. Lauren Spargo scored 10 points for Valencia.

The West Ranch girls basketball team beat Golden Valley, 70-34. Eleven West Ranch players scored at least two points. Cameo Carillo scored 10 points and had six assists for West Ranch.

The Master’s College men’s basketball team lost to Concordia, 89-71. Devin Dyer scored 27 points for The Master’s College in the loss.

The Master’s College women didn’t fare any better against Concordia, losing 61-47. Theresa Brown had 22 points and eight rebounds for The Master’s College.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls basketball team beat Pacifica, 35-20, behind 18 points and four assists from Taylor Cubas.

The College of the Canyons baseball team went 2-1 in the Southcoast Conference Tournament over the weekend. COC beat Mt. San Antonio College, 3-1, but lost to Cerritos College, 7-5, in the final game of the tournament.

COC starter Cory Jones went seven innings, struck out 11, and gave up only three hits, in the game against St. San Antonio College. Robbie Mouselli was 3-for-4, drove in a run and scored on a balk in the third inning.

The Master’s College baseball team split a doubleheader against Arizona Christian. The Master’s College won the first game, 11-6, but lost the second, 8-3.

Joe Riddle homered and drove in two runs in the first game. Tanner Leighton and Chris Talley each drove in two runs for The Master’s College in the first game.

Cody Harris and Riddle each drove in a run in the second game.

The Green Bay Packers won Super Bowl (45) XLV, 31-25, over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers won the Super Bowl MVP, throwing for 304 yards and three touchdowns.

Two of his touchdown passes went to receiver Greg Jennings.

The Packers scored 21 points off turnovers. Defensive back Nick Collins returned an interception for a touchdown that gave Green Bay a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

The Kings have a bit of a break after winning their second game on their 10-game road trip. The Kings beat the Calgary Flames, 4-3, in a shootout. That puts the Kings 2-1 after the first three games of their road trip.

The next game for the Kings is Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Lakers, meanwhile, are on Game 2 of their seven-game road trip and will play the Memphis Grizzlies tonight.

The Lakers are coming off a 101-95 win over the New Orleans Hornets on Saturday. The Grizzlies lost to the Houston Rockets, 95-93 in overtime, on Saturday night.
