Challenge Walk To Raise Money For Hoefflin Pediatric Cancer Group
A new fundraiser has been added to the Santa Clarita Valley landscape, one that will do both the walker and the charity good.
The first Michael Hoefflin Foundation Pediatric Cancer Challenge Walk is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, March 19 at College of the Canyons. The walk will help raise money for the Foundation’s work with pediatric cancer patients and their families and will give participants a chance to get out, enjoy the spring weather and get some good exercise.

In fact, this walk offers everyone a chance to “compete” on their own level – three courses are available, from the “easy” stadium walk, the “moderate” campus walk and the “challenging” nature walk. Courses for adults are three miles long, while the kids’ course is only one mile long.
A T-shirt design contest is being conducted among youths receiving assistance from the Foundation and all pre-registered walkers will get one.
“Our goal is to register more than 1,000 walkers this year and raise money to support children and families struggling with pediatric cancer,” said Michael Onuscheck, the event chair.
Walkers are encouraged to recruit their friends to walk in teams and there will be recognition for the largest team as well as the team that raises the most money. There are also a variety of sponsorship opportunities at many levels.
“The Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children’s Cancer has over the past 17 years become an integral part of Santa Clarita Valley culture,” said Onuscheck. “Michael was a 10-year old boy with a malignant brain tumor and a heart of gold. Although he ultimately lost his own battle with cancer, his family, friends and this community have kept alive Michael’s dream to help other children.”
