UPDATED: Blackout Hits Homes In Sand Canyon

UPDATE: 1:52 p.m. Power has been restored to all but 11 customers.

Approximately 1,500 SoCal Edison customers in Sand Canyon were hit by a blackout at 8:22 Friday morning after underground equipment failed at the insection of Kenroy Avenue and Soledad Canyon Road.

According to SoCal Edison spokeswoman Anna Frutos-Sanchez, water stored in a vault likely caused the failure.

The outage also struck Mitchell Community Elementary School, where power was restored around 12:30 p.m., Frutos-Sanchez said.

Edison crews worked through the morning to drain the water and switch circuits.

There are still 11 customers without power, but it should be restored by approximately 5:00 p.m.
