Mentors Needed By School And Business Alliance

SCVSchoolBus3DlogoLocal industry leaders are being called upon to help bring the real world up close and personal to students in the area.

The William S. Hart High School District’s Regional Occupational Program is looking for business leaders to participate in the annual “ROP Interview Night” on April 12.

Participants will talk with students about their career-oriented projects and business representatives will serve as judges at the event, which is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. at Golden Valley High School.

Bronze, silver and gold medalists from each career category will be selected, as well as one “Outstanding ROP Student of the Year,” from the top interviewees; they will be honored at a separate student recognition event.

To help with this event, contact Jodi Hoffman at the Hart District by calling 661-259-0033, ext. 231 or emailing jhoffman@hartdistrict.org

You can also help future business leaders by getting involved with the Santa Clarita Valley School and Business Alliance as they bring students and professionals together at their annual “Discovering Careers” event on April 16.

Now in its fourth year, the Alliance partners with College of the Canyons and the William S. Hart High School District to host the free career exploration fair for students of all ages.

More than 2,500 students and their parents have attended in the past, interacting with employers who have represented 15 different industry sectors. There will be activities and opportunities to talk with and experience some of the things that people do beyond school.

This is a great opportunity to mentor young future employees and help them learn about the career paths ahead of them. Business leaders are invited to participate and sponsorship opportunities are also available. For questions, call 661-753-5740, ext. 776 or email aestrada@hartdistrict.org.
