Saugus Girls Soccer Team Improves To 4-0 In Foothill League Play
The Saugus girls soccer team kept its undefeated Foothill League record alive with a 1-0 win over Valencia.
Jill Allen was credited with the lone goal in the game when her throw-in deflected off a defender and into the net in the 50th minute.
Saugus improved to 4-0 and is the only team with an undefeated Foothill League record.
The Hart girls soccer team beat Golden Valley, 2-0, for its first Foothill League win of the season. Kelsey Steck scored the first goal for Hart. Katie Trevino gave Hart a 2-0 lead in the second half. Kayce Perkins made two saves in goal for the shutout.
The Canyon and West Ranch girls played to a 1-1 draw. Amanda Dailor scored for West Ranch.
The West Ranch girls soccer team plays Saugus this afternoon. Canyon is home against Golden Valley and Hart is at Valencia.
The Santa Clarita Christian girls soccer team is on the road against New Roads.
The Hart boys soccer team got a hat trick from Uriel Rodriguez in its 6-0 win over Golden Valley. Rodriguez scored three goals, Sammy Reyes scored two and Nico Ferrero scored the sixth goal for Hart.
Goalkeeper Ryan Oakey made six saves for the shutout. Hart ran its unbeaten record to 3-0-1 in Foothill League play.
The Valencia and Saugus boys soccer teams played to a 1-1 tie. Joey Rodriguez scored the goal for Saugus. Aubrey Gierard scored for Valencia.
The West Ranch and Canyon boys soccer teams also played to a 1-1 draw. Tylar Simone was credited with a goal in the second half when his crossing pass went off a Canyon defender and into the goal.
Mohammad Roknipour scored the tying goal for Canyon in the 59th minute off a free kick.
It was the second draw in a row for Canyon. West Ranch recorded its first tie in Foothill League play.
The Canyon boys travel across town for a game against Golden Valley today. Valencia is at Hart and West Ranch is at Saugus.
The Master’s College women’s basketball team lost in triple overtime, 92-84, to Vanguard. The Master’s College erased a 20-point deficit to force the game into overtime.
In the second overtime period, The Master’s College was up five points, 76-71, but Vanguard, the 12th ranked team in the NAIA, tied the game to send it to a third overtime period.
Theresa Brown scored a game-high 29 points and had 19 rebounds for The Master’s College. Teammate Erica Inge hit the game-tying shot, a buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of regulation. She scored 20 points, 15 in the second half.
It was the fourth loss in a row for The Master’s College women.
The Master’s College men’s basketball team lost to Vanguard, 77-74 in overtime. The men only played one extra period after the game was tied 67-67 in regulation.
The Master’s College had a chance to win the game in regulation, but Joey Fuca’s lay-up at the end of the game hit the front of the rim and bounced out.
Anthony Cammon scored 24 points to lead The Master’s College. Teammate Devin Dyer scored 23 points and was 8-of-11 from the field.
The Master’s College men and women’s basketball teams are home tonight against Hope International. The women are scheduled to play at 5:30. The men start at 7:30.
There is a full slate of high school boys basketball games tonight. Canyon is at Golden Valley, Valencia is at Hart and West Ranch is at Saugus in Foothill League action.
The Trinity Classical Academy is on the road against Trinity Lutheran. Santa Clarita Christian is home against Thacher.
On the girls side, Canyon is at Golden Valley, Valencia is at Hart and West Ranch is at Saugus.
The Lakers will look to break out of a little funk against the Utah Jazz tonight at Staples Center. The Lakers have gone 2-2 in their past four games. They are coming off a 107-97 win over the Denver Nuggets on Friday night.
The Jazz have lost four games in a row, most recently to the Philadelphia 76ers, 96-85, on Saturday.
The Kings shut out the visiting Boston Bruins, 2-0, and won their second game in a row.
Jonathan Quick made 34 saves in goal and Ryan Smyth scored his 18th goal of the season in the first period.
The Kings are back in action on Wednesday night against the San Jose Sharks at Staples Center.
