Public Art Joins Canyon Country Park

khts_citymatters_scvlogoThe City of Santa Clarita is inviting the community to attend the dedication of the newest public art piece, “Friends,” on Wednesday, January 12 at 3:30 p.m. at Canyon Country Park. The afternoon will include light refreshments, a meet and greet with the artist, and provide the opportunity to view the latest addition to the City’s Art in Public Places Program.

“Friends” is a large-scale art project that was designed for, and installed in, the lower section of Canyon Country Park, in the grass area adjacent to Soledad Canyon Road. The piece is a contemporary abstract sculpture of a girl and her dog created in stone by artist Madeline Wiener.

“The Art in Public Places program continues to benefit our City by encouraging creative expression and artistic discussion among residents and visitors,” said Mayor Marsha McLean.

The “Friends” sculpture is one of 26 various art pieces throughout the City. Other public art pieces include the California Bear Project, murals at the Community Center, Aquatics Center and in Old Town Newhall, and the rotating First Floor Gallery at City Hall.

To RSVP to attend the dedication, please contact Jeff Barber, the City’s Arts Supervisor, at 661-286-4078 or via email at jbarber@santa-clarita.com.
