A Quick Way To Shock Yourself Into 2011

polarbearWe’ve checked around and can unequivocally verify that there is simply no better way to welcome the hope and possibilities of 2011 than jumping into a pool of unheated water with several dozen of your neighbors.

Fortunately, the City of Santa Clarita is opening said frigid plunge at 8:45 a.m. for the 5th annual Glacier Slide Polar Bear Swim on January 1 at the City’s Aquatic Center Waterslide Pool. For $3, swimmers can plunge into the icy pool, and start the year off with this Santa Clarita tradition.

Aquatic Center doors will open at 8:45 a.m. with the Glacier Slide Polar Bear Swim commencing at 9 a.m. Coffee, hot chocolate and heaters will be provided to warm participants up after the plunge. Spectators are welcome.

“The Glacier Slide Polar Bear Swim promises a memorable experience for those brave enough to endure the chilly temperature,” said Mayor Marsha McLean.

The Aquatic Center Waterslide Pool will not be open for recreational swimming on January 1 and will close immediately following the Polar Bear Swim. The City’s Sports Complex Aquatic Center is located at 20850 Centre Pointe Parkway.
