Planning Commission To Mull Creation Of Auto Dealer Zone
At Tuesday’s Planning Commission meeting, City staff will submit a proposal that aims to ensure orderly development of automobile dealers within Santa Clarita.
Specifically, staff is seeking the commission’s recommendation for the creation of a Vehicle Dealer Sales Overlay Zone, which would prohibit the establishment of new automobile and light truck businesses outside the zone’s borders.

Light trucks typically include vans, pickups and sport utility vehicles.
The VDS would include locations traditionally associated with auto dealerships, including the properties on Creekside Road, north and south of Auto Center Court and located at the northwest and southwest corners of the Magic Mountain Parkway/Bouquet Canyon Road intersection. The retail center located at the northeast corner of Valencia Boulevard and Magic Mountain Parkway would be included as well.
According to the staff report, the zone’s creation will “allow all new and used vehicle dealers to share a mutual economic and marketing benefit and will stop the proliferation of vehicle dealers throughout the City.”
If recommended by the commission, the City Council will vote on whether or not to approve the creation of the VDS sometime next year.
The Planning Commission meets tonight at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
