Local Family Shows Christmas Spirit With Light Display
You may have seen extravagant Christmas light displays portrayed in movies or television, but the Maddux family of Newhall has created a real display that is putting Christmas light lovers in awe.
On Dec. 31 of last year, Jim Maddux and his three sons began preparing for this years Christmas light display.
35,000 Christmas lights, 400 extension cords, 275 computer controlled zones, and four programmed Christmas songs later, the Maddux’s produced a Christmas light masterpiece that beats any Christmas display you’ve seen on your street.
Maddux said that when he started mounting lights on his house last year, it quickly became a hobby.
“I’ve always liked new things and electronics. I have seen a few [light] shows before on YouTube and I became intrigued and thought it would be a fun thing to do,” Maddux said.

Maddux has programmed the lights to match the beat of the Christmas songs to create a melodic light show that puts passersby in amazement.
“They love it. Everyone is just amazed by what they see,” Maddux said.
“This light show was a family project, every night at the dinner table for the last year Christmas lights have been the discussion matter. When most people were out shopping on black Friday, we were at home putting up Christmas lights,” said Jim’s son Brandon.
Each night, the Maddux’s begin the light show at 5:30 and continue them every fifteen minutes until the finale at 9:45.

If you are interested in seeing this incredible show for yourself, the Maddux’s live on 19121 Dalton Street, Newhall and welcome anyone interested in experiencing that sentimental feeling.
Maddux says that though he will take down the lights after New Years, he is hoping to put on a New Years display.
And about recreating this for next year, Maddux says, “I have three boys and they helped me this year and as long as I can get their help, I’ll keep doing this.”
