Sentencing Of Michael Dean Stephens Delayed

khts_crime_genericOn Thursday, the San Fernando Superior Court continued the sentencing of convicted murderer Michael Dean Stephens to January 20, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

On November 24, a jury found Stephens, now 21, guilty of second degree murder for the death of Josh Pipho, whom Stephens stabbed repeatedly.

The verdict followed nearly a month of testimony.

During the 2007 altercation in Stevenson Ranch that involved alcohol, drugs and fighting among two groups of friends, Stephens also stabbed Pipho’s friend, Chad Weitz, several times. The jury was deadlocked on a second count of attempted murder for this incident.

On January 20, a decision on whether to retry the attempted murder count is also expected.

Stephens faces 17 years to life in prison.
