On October 27, McAmis told investigators that after dropping off the two friends in San Diego, he took Ekelund to his home in Whittier where he attempted to have sex with her. She was killed in the following struggle.
McAmis told investigators that he buried Ekelund’s body on the grounds of LARC Ranch off Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office identified the remains as Ekelund’s on November 12.
According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, McAmis did not enter a plea due to the continuance and is currently listed without defense representation.
McAmis is being held without bail at Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles.
