Tylenol Cold Liquid Products Recalled Due To Packaging

Just as the new holiday season begins to bring unwelcome challenges to the immune system, a popular brand for fighting colds has been recalled.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, McNeil Consumer Healthcare, Division of McNeil-PPC, Inc., is recalling, from the wholesale and retail level, three Tylenol Cold Multi-Symptom liquid products in order to update the labeling.

TylenolCold2The company initiated the recall after an internal review revealed that information about the presence of alcohol from flavoring agents was noted as an inactive ingredient listed on the package, but not on the front panel of the product. Certain flavoring agents contribute small (less than one percent) amounts of alcohol.

As this recall is at the wholesale and retail level, consumers and healthcare providers can continue to use the product.

McNeil Consumer Healthcare has also recalled lots of its Children's Benadryl Allergy Fastmelt Tablets in grape and cherry flavors. The lots were distributed in the United States, Belize, Barbados, Canada, Puerto Rico, St. Martin, and St. Thomas.

All product lots of Junior Strength Motrin Caplets, 24 count, distributed in the U.S. have been recalled as well.

After conducting a review, McNeil determined that the Benadryl and Motrin lots revealed insufficiencies in the development of the manufacturing process. Consumers and healthcare providers can continue to use these products.

McNeil has also recalled one product lot of Rolaids Extra Strength Softchews, Cherry Flavor, 36 count package distributed in the United States. The lot number is 0053AG2, which can be found on the back of the package.

The company initiated the recall as a precaution following consumer complaints of an uncharacteristic consistency or texture, possibly due to crystallized sugar in the product.   No action is required by consumers or healthcare providers.

Consumers with questions should call the company’s Consumer Care Center at 1-888-222-6036. Representatives are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
