West Ranch, Valencia Girls Tennis Teams In CIF Playoff Semifinals

khts_sportsIt looks like the West Ranch and Valencia girls tennis teams are on a collision course to meet in the CIF Southern Section Division III championship match.

Both teams are in the semifinals after impressive quarterfinal wins.

West Ranch, the top-seeded team in the Division III playoffs, beat Santiago Corona 13-5.

Sisters Ana Lucia and Ana Cecilia Fuentes each swept their singles matches. The No. 1 and No. 2 doubles  team for West Ranch also swept their sets.

The Valencia girls, the No. 2 seed in the Division III playoffs, beat Lakewood, 11-7. Valencia’s top singles player Clarice Fraczek won two of her three singles matches. Her sistrer, Emily Fraczek, also won two of her three singles matches to pace Valencia.

In college golf, the College of the Canyons women’s team finished in second place in the California Community College Athletic Association tournament at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills.

COC had the lead after the first day of the two-day tournament. But Irvine Valley College surged ahead of COC on the second day, shooting 315 as a team and 650 overall. COC was four shots off the pace after shooting 324 as a team on the second day of the tournament.

COC’s Hae Yong Kim led her team on Day 2 of the tournament with a 4-over par 78. Her two-day total was 167.

The Valencia Flyers lost to the Long Beach Bombers, 3-1, and saw their losing streak hit eight games in a row. Edy Keshishian scored the lone goal for the Flyers.

The Flyers get a rematch against the Bombers on Saturday night at the Valencia Ice Station. The puck drops at 7:15.

The Lakers snapped their little two-game funk with a 118-107 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. Kobe Bryant scored 31 points and Shannon Brown scored 21 off the bench.

The Lakers continue their road trip against the Detroit Pistons tonight.

The Kings are back home to face the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight at Staples Center. The Kings had their six-game winning streak snapped against the San Jose Sharks on Monday night.

To make matters worse, the Kings will be without left winger Scott Parse, who scored his first goal of the season against the Sharks. He is scheduled to have surgery on his hip and will be out until February.

The Blue Jackets have lost two of their past three games, including 5-1 to the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night.
