Novak Named As New Executive Director Of LAFCO

LA_County_SealAfter shepherding planners, developers and people with big dreams about land use for the last seven years, Paul Novak is moving up to the prestigious position of heading the Los Angeles County Local Agency Formation Commission.

Since 2003, Novak has been the Planning Deputy for L.A. County Supervisor Michael Antonovich, which required him to be familiar with all the details of projects in the expansive Fifth District. Now he’ll have the rest of the county to consider, with the help of a nine-member commission.

Novak is still negotiating some details of his new job and would only say that he was looking forward to joining LAFCO at the first of the year. Until the end of December, he will be finishing up his duties with the Supervisor.

He replaces Sandor Winger, who retired in May.

LAFCO, a state-mandated agency, is responsible for reviewing and approving proposed jurisdictional boundary changes (i.e., city incorporations), formations of new districts and consolidations, mergers and dissolutions of existing districts. The agency also reviews and approves contractual service agreements, determines spheres of influence for each city and district and may suggest other jurisdictional changes.
