The Master's College Men's Golf Team Wins NCCAA Championship

khts_sportsThe Master’s College men’s golf team won the National Christian College Athletic Association championship by 10 strokes at the Hombre Golf Club in Panama City, Fla., over the weekend.

It was the third NCCAA championship for The Master’s College. The Mustangs won the title in 2003 and 2004.

Kevin Anderson won the three-day tournament, the first of his college career. He shot 3-under par and finished three strokes ahead of Justin Lower from Malone University.

Anderson was the only player to shoot under par in the tournament. He earned NCCAA player of the year and All-America honors.

The College of the Canyons women’s golf team won the fifth Western State Conference match of the season at Robinson Ranch.

COC beat Bakersfield by 13 strokes, 323-335.

Hannah Lee shot the low round for COC with a 6-over par, 78. Teammate Tiara Wells carded a 7-over, 79.

The College of the Canyons women have won 24 conference matches in a row.

In college soccer, The Master’s College women beat Vanguard, 3-1. Emily Bruton scored the game-winner in the second half. Sierra Goff gave The Master’s College, the No. 6 team in the NAIA, a 1-0 lead in the first half.

The Master’s College bounced back after losing for the first time this season to Azusa Pacific last week.

The Master’s College men’s soccer team lost to Vanguard, 1-0. The men had four shots on goal.

Vanguard scored a goal in the third minute and held on for the win.

In hockey, the Valencia Flyers beat the Long Beach Bombers, 11-5, and have a three-game wining streak.

Four Flyers scored two goals apiece. Tyler Abbott, Cameron Randles, Jake Ryan and David Tagvoryan each scored two goals in the game.

The Flyers are on the road this weekend for a three-game series against the Fresno Monsters.

In the American League Championship Series, Texas Rangers starter Cliff Lee held the New Yankees to two hits in eight innings in an 8-0 Game 3 win at Yankee Stadium.

Lee outpitched Yankees starter Andy Pettitte, who gave up a first inning, two-run home run to Josh Hamilton.

Lee and Pettitte matched zeros for the next six innings. The Rangers exploded for six runs, five off reliever David Robertson, in the ninth inning to put the Yankees away.

The Rangers lead the American League Championship Series, 2-1.

The American League Championship Series continues tonight. It will be Tommy Hunter for the Rangers against AJ Burnett for the Yankees.

The National League Championship Series resumes tonight. The series between the San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies is tied at one game apiece. It will be Cole Hamels for the Phillies against Matt Cain for the Giants in Game 3.
