Bakoo_Zaid_pic_cropZaid Bakoo, who has served as a teacher in the William S. Hart Union School District since 2005, has been named the new assistant principal of Canyon High School. The district’s Governing Board approved the appointment at its meeting on Oct. 6, and the new position is expected to be effective in late October.

The position was vacated when Pete Getz was promoted to principal of Sequoia Charter School, last month.

Bakoo has been an American Government and AP Government and Politics teacher at Saugus High School, where in addition to teaching the required curriculum for this mandated course, he encourages his students to be active participants in our democratic system, get involved in the community and the importance of civic duty. Saugus Principal Bill Bolde said, “We are going to miss him. He has been a fabulous teacher. We wish him all the best in his new position at Canyon.”

Bakoo was named the Saugus High School teacher of the year in 2009, and has served Saugus’ intervention coordinator, the safety and disaster coordinator, and also served on the professional development and professional learning community teams. He has previously been a site council member and a summer school administrative intern.

He holds a preliminary Tier I Administrative Services Credential from National University, a California Professional Clear Single Subject Teaching Credential, a MA in Political Science from Cal State Univ Northridge and a BA in Political Science from San Diego State Univ.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to impact all students to make sure they are learning and doing well on exams,” Bakoo said. “I will take a global approach toward educating our students and will have the students’ best interests in mind at all times.”
