Newhallywood Minute

http://www.alexfilmsociety.org/

Did you know that the area around Newhall in Santa Clarita was once such a popular filming spot that producers nicknamed the town “Newhallywood,” and that even today, film and television production pours $20 million into the local economy? And were you aware that both the final scene of the silent era and the steamiest television ad of all time were both filmed on Sierra Highway? Or that Michael Jackson, John Wayne, and the cast of Star Trek filmed at Vasquez Rocks?

It’s all true!

Find out about these fascinating stories and more from E.J. Stephens, the author of Images of America: Early Warner Bros. Studios. Stephens sits on the board of directors for the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society in Newhall, where he hosts a classic film series and teaches a class on the rich film history of the Santa Clarita Valley. He is also a board member for the Alex Film Society in Glendale and writes an entertainment history blog called “Deadwrite’s Dailies.”

Make sure and tune in daily to KHTS 1220, your hometown station, to learn more of the SCV’s film and television history on “The Newhallywood Minute,” hosted by Hollywood historian and Canyon Country resident E.J. Stephens.
