Student Stabbing At Hart High School

khts_crime_chpA Hart High School student is in stable condition after being stabbed in the chest with a kitchen knife by another student.

According to Gail Pinsker, Community Liaison Officer for the William S. Hart Union School District, the incident occurred at approximately 12:40 p.m., during which the suspect, a 16-year-old white female, attacked the victim, another 16-year-old white female.

The suspect reportedly struck the victim with an eight-inch kitchen knife during which a teacher intervened and prevented further attack.

The exact reason for the stabbing isn't known, but it was likely the result of some sort of social situation, Pinsker said.

According to Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station, the victim was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital and treated for her injuries. She was reportedly stabbed four times: once in the chest, twice in the arms and once in the back. The chest wound is the only serious injury.

The suspect was also brought to the hospital for potential injuries and then processed at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station. She is currently being held at Sylmar Juvenile Hall.

The District notified the parents of Hart High School students by voicemail and through their notification system.

Students were able to resume their normal schedule and return to class.
