Valencia's Alison Lee On Winning U.S. Junior Ryder Cup Team
Valencia High sophomore Alison Lee lost her Junior Ryder Cup match, but she can call herself a Junior Ryder Cup champion.
The Americans won the title for the second year in a row, beating the European team, 13 ½ to 10 ½, at Gleneagles, Scotland..
Lee lost to Manon Mole, 5 and 4, in the international golf championship, but the Americans had a 9-3 edge after the first day of the tournament. The Americans needed to win only three matches on the second day of the tournament to capture the Junior Ryder Cup championship.
The Junior Ryder Cup began in 1997. The series is tied 3-3-1.
The Hart High girls golf team won a tight match against Santa Ynez at the La Purisma Golf Course in Lompoc. Hart beat Santa Ynez by three strokes, 215-218. Amanda Corr shot the low round for Hart at 36. Brenna Carlson carded a 38.
The West Ranch girls golf team lost to Arcadia by six strokes. Sarah Hong shot the low round of the match. She came in with a 34 for West Ranch. Jackie Kang shot a 40.
The Valencia girls tennis team, the No. 1 ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Division III poll, narrowly beat West Ranch in a match-up of top-five teams.
Valencia won, 73-70, on games after the two teams tied 9-9. Valencia’s No. 2 singles player Emily Fraczek was the difference maker, beating West Ranch’s No. 1 player Ana Lucia Fuentes, 7-6.
West Ranch came into the match ranked No. 3 in the Division III poll. West Ranch’s No. 1 doubles team of True O’Neill and Mallory Martin swept their sets, 6-2, 6-0, 6-1.
Valencia’s Clarice Fraczek won all three of her matches, 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.
In college soccer, the College of the Canyons men’s team tied Moorpark College, 1-1. Andres Bueno gave COC a 1-0 lead in the first half with a goal in the 45th minute.
Moorpark’s Anthony Trujillo tied the game in the second with a penalty kick goal in the 78th minute.
It was the first draw for COC, 4-2-1, this season.
The Master’s College men’s team lost to Frenso Pacific, 2-1, in overtime. The Master’s College, ranked 23rd in the NAIA, got a goal from Joel Peluffo.
In high school volleyball, the Trinity girls team swept L.A. Lutheran and set a school record with 30 aces. Felicia Krol led Trinity with nine.
The Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies, 7-6, and completed the three-game sweep. The Dodgers scored five runs in the third inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Matt Kemp.
The Dodgers have the day off today. They start a season-ending, three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday at Dodger Stadium
