Valencia Cross Country Teams Win Bell-Jeff Invitational Meet
The Valencia boys and girls cross country teams were winners at the Bell-Jeff Invitational at Griffith Park over the weekend.
Valencia’s Falco DiGiallornado won the boys red division race in 15 minutes, 2 seconds.
Sarah Adams won the girls red division race in 18 minutes, 15 seconds.
The Saugus girls volleyball team finished second in its own tournament. Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks beat the Saugus girls in the championship match at Canyon High School.
Saugus setter Ashley Guthrie and outside hitter Sarah Blumgren earned spots on the all-tournament team. Guthrie recorded 111 assists in the two-day tournament. Blumgren had 32 kills and 11 blocks in five games in the tournament.
Saugus beat Serrano and Culver City in pool play before downing Brentwood and Campbell Hall in the playoffs.
Notre Dame beat Saugus in a two-game sweep to win the tournament title.
Hart beat Brentwood for fifth place in the tournament. Canyon was seventh.
The Santa Clarita Valley Water Polo Club is looking for players. The club water polo team has started practicing and preparing for the tournament season that starts in January.
The team is seeking players, boys and girls ages 13 to 17, with intermediate swimming or water polo skills.
The team practice three days a week at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center.

In college soccer, The Master’s College women’s team won its Golden State Athletic Conference opener, 1-0, over Pt. Loma Nazarene in a match-up of NAIA top 25 teams.
The Master’s College, ranked 15th in the NAIA, maintained its undefeated record at 8-0-1 after nine games. Emily Bruton scored the lone goal of the game in the 14th minute.
The Master’s College goalkeeper Amanda Diamond made one save against 16th-ranked Pt. Loma Nazarene.
The Master’s College men’s team beat Pt. Loma Nazarene, 2-1, in overtime. Saugus High graduate David Algeria scored the game-winning goal for The Master’s College in the Golden State Athletic Conference opener. Doug Armstrong scored a goal in the fourth minute to five The Master’s College an early 1-0 lead.
In college volleyball, The Master’s College women’s team lost to Hope International in four games. Sam Dougherty had 10 kills and Leslie Windham had 26 digs for The Master’s College.
The Master’s College is 0-6 in Golden State Athletic Conference play and 5-10 overall.
In the NFL, the Chicago Bears beat the Green Bay Packers, 20-17, on a chip-shot, last second field goal by Robbie Gould.
Bears quarterback Jay Cutler threw for 221 yards and a touchdown in leading his team to a perfect 3-0 record.
Devin Hester returned a punt 62 yards for a touchdown to give the Bears a 14-10 lead in the fourth quarter.
The Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies, 3-1, behind eight strong innings from starter Ted Lilly.
Lilly gave up one run on four hits and struck out eight. The Dodgers denied Rockies starter Ubaldo Jimenez his 20th win of the season.
Casey Blake went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs for the Dodgers.
The Dodgers continue their series with the Rockies tonight. It will be Hiroki Kuroda for the Dodgers against Jeff Francis for the Rockies.
