khts_citymatters_scvlogoDuring Tuesday’s Planning Commission meeting, members voted to approve a set a guidelines for outdoor dining and merchandise display in Old Town Newhall.

With the Commission’s approval, current restaurants on Main Street in Newhall will now be able to seat tables outside their businesses as long as the guidelines allowing for pedestrian safety and accessibility are followed.

Those restaurants include El Mas Café, El Pariente, El Trocadero, Jazmin’s Restaurant, Thai Pepper Restaurant and the Way Station.

Any future restaurants on the street, which holds approximately 80 tenant spaces, will be awarded the same privilege.

The Commission also approved amendments for the outdoor display of merchandise in much of the commercial property in Old Town Newhall.

As per new guidelines, there is a tight limit on the total amount of outdoor merchandise allowed. In addition, used or second party merchandise may not be sold outside by the business.

The Commission also made a recommendation to City Council to approve new surface parking spaces and three, two-level parking structures at Grace Baptist Church in Saugus.

Newly-appointed Commissioner, Lisa Eichman, was not in attendance at the meeting as she won't be sworn in until October.
