Hate Crime In Newhall

khts_crimeA partygoer on the way home with a friend was assaulted by two men who followed their car and confronted them on DeWolfe Road in Newhall Friday night.

Lt. Mark Hershey of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said the two men from the party, who were white, left the party around 8 p.m. and noticed that another car, carrying two black men, was tailgating them.

The victim went up a dirt road in the area of DeWolfe and Wiley Canyon Roads, where the following car turned off, but when they returned to DeWolfe, the other car had pulled in front of them and the two men got out.

The driver of the first car was told to get out of the car by the two black men, who were shouting racial epithets and challenging the man to a fight. In the scuffle that ensued, one of the black men produced a knife and cut the victim on the mouth and behind his right ear.

Neighbors broke up the fight and the suspects fled the scene. Deputies are looking for a two-door silver Honda, possibly a 2000-2005 Civic. The suspects are described as two male blacks, between the ages of 22 and 27; one is 5’ 10”, weighing 180 pounds and the second 6’ 1”, weighing 300 pounds.

This incident is being treated as a hate crime. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s station at 661-255-1121.
