Deadline Nears for Measure SA Oversight Committee Applications
The deadline is Friday, August 27, for citizens interested in filling vacancies on the Hart School District’s Measure SA Citizens’ Oversight Committee.
In November 2008, voters passed Measure SA, which sent $300 million to the Hart School District to build and maintain high schools in the Santa Clarita Valley. For example, some of this money will be used to construct the new high school in Castaic.

The committee reviews use of these funds reports to the public on whether the money is spent as required by law.
The Hart District Governing Board established the committee with a minimum of seven and a maximum of 17 members, who serve for two-year terms and a maximum of two consecutive terms.
The committee currently has one opening to replace a member who has joined the district staff and is no longer eligible for committee membership. The Board of Education may consider selecting a pool of alternate members who could fill future vacancies as they occur. The committee meets monthly on the second Tuesday evening, with additional subcommittee meetings as needed. Members represent a cross-section of the community and cannot be employees, vendors, contractors or consultants to the Hart District.
In addition, the law requires that at least one member of the committee represent each of five specific groups: a bona fide taxpayer organization, senior citizens, the business community, a parent organization and a parent with students currently in the district.
Applications are available at the district office at 21515 Centre Pointe Parkway, Santa Clarita, 91350, or can be downloaded from the district Web site at http://bit.ly/1SlCoi. A copy can also be requested by calling 259-0033, Ext. 271.
Deadline for applications is 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, 2010.
