The Master's College Women's Soccer Team Ranked No. 23 In NAIA Preseason Poll
The Master’s College women’s soccer team is ranked 23rd in the recently released NAIA preseason poll. It is the highest preseason ranking by the women’s soccer team in school history.
The Master’s College women’s soccer team won the National Christian College Athletic Association championship last year. They were 15-5-2 and were ranked as high as No. 13 in the NAIA poll in 2009.
Lee University in Tennessee is the No. 1 ranked team in the NAIA preseason poll. Five teams from the Golden State Athletic Conference, including The Master’s College are ranked in the top-25.
Point Loma Nazarene is No. 2, Azusa Pacific is No. 5, California Baptist is No. 8 and Vanguard is No. 12. The Master’s College begins conference play against Point Loma Nazarene on Sept. 25.
Santa Clarita Christian graduate Kayla Gale and Canyon High graduate Sierra Goff are on The Master’s College roster. Gale is a freshman midfielder and Goff is a senior midfielder.
The Master’s College opens the 2010 season at home on Saturday against Roberts Wesleyan from New York.
In college volleyball, The Master’s College women’s team opens the 2010 season tonight against Holy Names in Azusa. The team has a new coach and is looking to improve on its 10-20 season in 2009.
Bobby Blanken takes over as coach for The Master’s College. He was coach of the girls volleyball team at Village Christian and led them to a CIF Southern Section championship in 2007.
He started his volleyball coaching career as the boys junior varsity coach at Canyon High School. He moved on to coach with the Synergy Volleyball club before returning to the high school ranks and eventually college.
The Master’s College finished with a 2-18 Golden State Athletic Conference record and a four-match losing streak last year.
The Dodgers will have to wait a little longer for all-star shortstop Rafael Furcal to come off the disabled list. He was planning on starting a minor league rehab stint this week, but a team trainer decided it was best that Furcal be examined by a specialist.
Furcal has been on the 15-day disabled list with lower back pain since Aug. 11 and hasn’t played since Aug. 2.
On the field, the Dodgers threw away another one, this time literally, in a 3-2 loss to the Rockies last night.
Melvin Mora scored the winning run for the Rockies in the 10th inning on a wild pitch by Dodgers reliever Octavio Dotel.
Dotel threw three wild pitches in the 10th allowing Mora to round the bases before scoring.
At least the Dodgers made it exciting in the bottom of the 10th. Reed Johnson, who reached with a one-out single, was thrown out at the plate with the potential game-tying run. He tried to score from first on a bloop, two-out single by Scott Podsednik.
The Dodgers and Rockies conclude their series tonight at Dodger Stadium. It will be Ted Lilly for the Dodgers against Jorge De La Rosa for the Rockies. Pregame starts at 6:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.
