Friday Furloughs For State Workers Back On Books
Furlough Fridays for state workers have been reinstated and they will again be forced to take three days a month off without pay.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger ordered the program, initially implemented in 2009, top begin again after last year’s round of furloughs expired at the end of June. The furloughs are one of several attempts to save money at the state level.
An Alameda County Superior Court Judge had issued a temporary restraining order preventing the new round of furloughs, but the California State Supreme Court stayed that order this afternoon.

The issue under review is the governor’s authority to order the unpaid furloughs and will be the subject of oral argument on September 8.
