The Dodgers made some trade deadline acquisitions to make a playoff push. But the new-look Dodgers had the same old problems of not being able to score runs.
The Dodgers traded for pitcher Ted Lilly and second baseman Ryan Theriot from the Cubs in exchange for Blake DeWitt and a couple minor leaguers. The Dodgers also acquired reliever Octavio Dotel from the Pirates for James McDonald and outfield prospect Andrew Lambo before Saturday’s deadline.
Theriot and Scott Podsednik, who was traded to the Dodgers from the Chicago White Sox earlier in the week, were little help against the Giants on Sunday.
Theriot and Podsednik were a combined 1-for-8 in a 2-0 loss to the Giants. Matt Cain, the starter for the Giants, pitched into the eighth inning and gave up only four hits.
The Giants completed the sweep of the Dodgers over the weekend and knocked the Dodgers into fourth place in the National League West standings, eight games out of first place.
