Arts Commission Selects Finalists For Art Project And Adopts Name For Foundation

khts_inthecommunityThe City of Santa Clarita’s Arts Commission moved forward on two agenda items during their July Arts Commission meeting. The Commission selected finalists for a new public art piece for the City’s Sports Complex Aquatics Center and a name was selected for the City’s new arts foundation.

The Arts Commission selected three finalists to move into the second phase of the Aquatics Center wall mural project, which is concept design. Each artist will create a detailed conceptual design proposal, which needs to be submitted to the Arts Commission by September 9.

Commissioner's will evaluate the finalist’s proposals and determine the winning artist at the September 16 Arts Commission meeting. The art project is scheduled to begin in October with a completion deadline for the project by November 12.

A decision was also made regarding the naming of the Commission’s new funding and development organization.  A list of 12 proposed names were compiled by the Commissioners and City staff.  Out of those, Santa Clarita Arts Foundation was chosen.

“The new Santa Clarita Arts Foundation will give the City the opportunity to expand its support for the arts in our community,” said Mayor Laurene Weste.

The next Arts Commission meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 16 at 6:00 p.m. at Santa Clarita City Hall, located at 23920 Valencia Blvd. For further information regarding the Arts Commission, click here.
