County Mortality Study Gives Santa Clarita Newborns 80 Years

BabySanta Clarita newborns can expect to live an average of 80 years, according to a recent mortality analysis by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.  

The report, which uses data from a 2006 study (the most recent available), shows the average life expectancy in the County to be 80.3 years – a significant increase from the 75.8 figure from 1991.

Of the 103 County cities and unincorporated areas surveyed, Santa Clarita ranked 69th in average life expectancy at birth.  

La Cañada Flintridge ranked first with an average of 87.8 years while Westmont ranked last with 72.4.  

The data attributes coronary heart disease as the primary cause of death in both men and women living in Los Angeles County. Homicide is the second-leading cause for men while breast cancer is for women. Traffic accidents are the third-leading killer for both genders.
